The election campaign got under way today in Moville Community College with Odhrán Lafferty and Keenan Lake going head to head for the nomination. They spent the morning canvassing students and telling them their goals if they were nominated. At lunchtime they held "Stop and Talk" sessions and handed out flyers and showcased their manifesto.
The Donegal Youth Council is made up of approx 36 students aged between 12-18 from secondary schools in Donegal and the position lasts for 2 years. The aim of Donegal Youth Council is to build and strengthen links with people and organisations that impact on their lives. The students identify issues concerning young people and promote projects in order to improve the lives and wellbeing of young people in Donegal. Projects they have been working on include road safety, mental health, girls in sport and improving school facilities. The selected candidate would represent the students in our school and local area, attending regular meetings and events.
Elections will be held next Monday 19th November in the school and every student will place their vote in the ballot box. The votes will be counted straight away and the successful candidate will be announced.
It is an exciting week ahead for both Keenan and Odhrán as well as the whole school and we wish them luck in their endeavours to become the representative for Moville Community College on the Donegal Youth Council.
