Positive Mental Health Week

Moville Community College

Monday 25th April

On Monday, the senior students got to go to the meditation room where they got the chance to relax. At lunchtime there was a photo booth in the mental health area. The students got to come and dress up and have their picture taken with their friends which they really seemed to enjoy.

The quotes for the day were:

“Darkness cannot drive out the darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”

and

“Every day is a second chance”.

Tuesday 26th April

Stuart mc Kinley and Torin Boyd played live music in the upper building beside the second year lockers. The topic in the mental health was “tips to help with sleeping”. Everyone really enjoyed the music and were in good form for the rest of the day. ☺

Quote of the day (lower):

“Stop hating yourself for everything yourself for everything you aren’t and start loving yourself for everything you are”

Quote of the day (upper):

“when you feel like giving up remember why you held on for so long in the first place”

Wednesday 27th April

The schedule for Wednesday of Mental Health Week was jam packed! To start off the day, a "Quote of the Day" was read out at both Junior and Senior assemblies, which was

"Be strong, trust yourself, conquer your fears, go after what you want and act fast because life just isn't that long".

In our mental health area for students, we had information on the benefits of exercise, along with some added information from the support services Aware and Belong. We also added a bit of fun at lunchtime, as we set up a photo booth for students in the mental health area, complete with wigs, sunglasses and chalkboard signs. The pictures from the photo booth were then displayed on the TV screen in the foyer for everyone to see.

Thursday 28th April

The Mental Health week which took place during the 24th – 29th of April really promoted not only Positive Mental Health but any other issues that may have also concerned the students and staff of MCC. During this week there was many activities on. On the Thursday morning I spoke out at senior assembly informing the other students what was on during lunch which was live music upstairs and chill out tips for students by students in the M.H.A. I also read out a quote which I thought would be off most benefit to the staff and students.

‘If Plan A doesn’t work, just remember there’s 25 more letters left.’

Friday 29th April

On Friday, the theme for the Mental Health Area was songs to improve your mood. This I feel is very important because sometimes we don’t want to talk to someone or share all of our thoughts and feelings, so this was a great way to help people improve their mood, and in turn, their mental well-being. Our activity during lunchtime was a mile walk, using the road surrounding the school. Quite a few teachers got involved along with students from every year group. It was such a nice day and getting some exercise was a great way to finish the week. Just being outside and walking for only 20 minutes increased everyone’s mood so much. All in all it was a great week with something for everyone to get involved in.
