Post 5 - Hand and Respiratory Hygiene

Hand Hygiene

Additional sinks are being installed in corridors to replace the loss of some sinks where risk assessment advice requires us to remove one from use in bathrooms. Students are reminded that washing ones hands with soap and warm water is the most effective way of killing Covid 19. Alternatively, hand hygiene can be achieved by the use of a hand sanitiser (when hands look clean). Dispensers will be placed in every classroom and at the entrance to the school.

Students, staff and visitors to the school are asked to use soap and water where possible so as to reduce the amount of plastic waste caused by purchasing of gels.

Posters displaying hand washing techniques and promoting hand washing are on walls adjacent to washing facilities.

The Response Plan advises that students and staff should perform hand hygiene:

· On arrival at school;

· Before eating or drinking;

· After using the toilet;

· After petting animals;

· After playing outdoors;

· When their hands are physically dirty;

· When they cough or sneeze.

Respiratory Hygiene

Please cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your bent elbow when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately and safely into a nearby bin.

By following good respiratory hygiene, you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
